Charon is the ferryman of the The Underworld. He is the ferryman of Hades who carries the souls of the newly deceased across the River Styx and River Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead.
Appearance[]
He wears a hooded robe so that all you can see of his face are his eyes and mouth. His skin is red in color and his nails are all shown to be slightly long in length.
Personality[]
Charon is never heard speaking and his appearance gives him a somewhat menacing look. He carries out his job with utmost seriousness, even shown needing payment from Atropos before ferrying Jay across the river in Road to Hades.
However, he is shown to be willing to negotiate on what can be used as payment as shown in Forget Me Not when Neil agreed to give his silk shirt and vintage sneakers to Charon when he had no coins available.
Mythology[]
Charon, also known as the Ferryman, was the one who gave safe passage of souls across the river into the Underworld. A coin to pay Charon for passage was sometimes placed in or on the mouth or on the eyes of the dead. If a soul did not have a coin to give Charon, they were not allowed to cross the river and would have to face eternity of never being able to rest.
