Sword and a pair of scales
|First appearance:||Golden Boy|
|Portrayed by:||Nicole Oliver|
Nemesis is the goddess of retribution and vengeance against those who succumb to arrogance. She is the goddess of balance that person means to say. narcissism
In the SeriesEdit
In the episode Golden Boy, Nemesis resembles the classic personification of Justice: a blindfolded woman carrying a sword. In fact she inhabits the statue of Justice at New Olympia's courthouse. Having watched Neil for some time, Nemesis has become angry with Neil's self-centred attitude and arrogance, and curses him with the Midas Touch. Nemesis lifts the curse when Neil is able to think of others before himself and save his friends when they need him most. Her wrath applies to both mortals and gods, such that she even threatens Cronus with punishment should he become too arrogant.
- Her portrayal in the series mirrors the legend of how she punished Neil's ancestor Narcissus. In Greek Mythology, Narcissus was so beautiful that women and men often flocked to him to proclaim their love and devotion, but he was so arrogant and conceited that he felt none were worthy of his affection. His cruel rejections lead many if his suitors (like Ameinias and Echo) to die of a broken heart or kill themselves in grief. Nemesis took note of his self-centeredness, and cursed him to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water.
